About Us
Our Mission
Ryan's Law Foundation is dedicated to advocating for terminally ill patients and their families, ensuring they receive the palliative care they deserve. We strive to raise awareness and provide necessary resources for states to pass laws that allow terminally ill patients and their families to have options with respect to medicine.
Established in memory of Ryan Bartell, our foundation emphasizes compassion and support through legislative initiatives. We engage the community through education, volunteer opportunities, and by actively advocating for quality end-of-life care.
Since its passage, Ryan’s Law has become a national model for patient advocacy at the intersection of medicine, policy, and end-of-life care. This video explores the law’s origins, impact, and the growing coalition of lawmakers, doctors, and advocates working to expand it beyond California.
Hear directly from Jim Bartell, a grieving father turned fierce advocate, as he recounts the final days of his son Ryan, and the beginning of a movement to fight so that no other family has to experience what his went through.
Oregon’s attempt to pass Ryan’s Law, granting terminally ill patients access to medical cannabis in healthcare settings, stalled several times before being signed into law in 2026.
